Portland runs 2.734 to 1 and carries very little ink for that width, so it reads as a long quiet line rather than a crowded one. Most of what height there is waits until the right third.
What is in the drawing
A small notched block and a low box open the far left with plenty of space around them. A truss bridge follows, drawn as two shallow arched spans filled with zigzag bracing, with a lift tower standing up between them. The line then climbs a tall slab with a rounded corner, crosses a stepped block and a shaft with a pointed top, and runs on through low flat roofs. A tower with a horizontal cap and a plain slab carry the height into the right third, where one tower rises under a pointed crown above a tall arched face. From there the roofline steps down through three diminishing blocks to the far edge.
Mug or canvas
At 2.734 to 1 this is far wider than the mug band, so on a mug it runs the whole way round and reads as a continuous panorama with no start or finish. Coverage is 0.054, light enough to hold together at small sizes. In a 3:2 canvas a drawing this wide floats with real space above and below it, so the wide sizes suit it and the smallest one does not.
