The statue in the middle of Dakar is the only striding figure in this range. The drawing catches it mid-step with the arm up, and gives it as much height as the minarets on either side.
What is in the drawing
A broad triangle opens the left, drawn plain and wide with a low mound at its foot. A mosque follows: two banded minarets, a small dome between them, arches along the base. A statue holds the center, a figure in mid- stride with one arm lifted and a smaller figure carried at the shoulder, standing on a low plinth. A long low building comes next, its roof drawn as a row of soft humps over two rows of arches. A domed complex closes the right, three banded shafts and a crenellated wall over more arcading.
Mug or canvas
The longest of these twenty-two at 2.740 to one. That is far outside the mug's 2.14 band, so the drawing is carried across the wrap with paper above and below it. Coverage 0.083, and the striding figure is the finest work, wanting 24 by 16 at least.
