Kyoto gives the office slabs the edges and the old city the middle: the needle of the tower, a tiered pagoda, a wide temple gate and a second pagoda, all drawn at about the same height as the towers around them.
What is in the drawing
Three flat slabs open the left, plain and close together, one with a small notch at its top. The tower rises past them, a slim needle with a ring near its top. A pagoda stands beside it, three eaves stacked and turned up at the corners. A wide temple gate follows, its roof spreading past its posts. A second pagoda comes next with a taller finial. Two flat slabs close the right.
Mug or canvas
At 1.818 to 1 this drawing sits nearer a 3 by 2 canvas than the mug band: on canvas it fills the frame with little margin and on a mug it scales by height and sits in the middle of the wrap. Ink is 0.075, light because the slabs are outline. Pagoda eaves stay distinct from 18 by 12.
