The flag strings are what stretch Kathmandu out. They run from the top of the stupa down to the ground on both sides, and the line has to leave room for the spread.

What is in the drawing

A pagoda opens the left, three roofs stacked one over another and narrowing to a spire. A domed shrine follows on a banded drum with thin posts around it. A temple gate comes next, its lintel drawn with small finials along the top. A stupa holds the center: a dome with a boxed head and a spire, and strings of flags running down from the spire to the ground on both sides. A banded tower follows under a rounded cap. Two more tiered pagodas close the right, the last of them squared off and heavy.

Mug or canvas

Longest here by a distance at 2.838 to one. A wrap stops at 2.14, so the drawing spans it and leaves clear paper above. Ink 0.111, held in the flag strings and the stacked roofs, so take 30 by 20.
